Harper County farmers are highly experienced and well versed in the production of good forage. Forage, in the form of hay, is produced in order to help feed the huge number of cattle and livestock that are held within the county. Wheat hay, sorghum and alfalfa are the most commonly produced hay forages in Harper County. Research information regarding all aspects of forage is available from the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service.
In addition, the Harper County OSU Extension Office is experienced in testing sorghum for excessive nitrate levels. Excessive nitrates pose a threat to cattle if consumed at high levels, and the Harper County Extension office often field tests forage to determine its safety. |
